While working at Microsoft for nearly 3 years, I was in the Office Media Group, the organization that oversees all digital media across Office from the Windows Video Editor to Stream to the Photos App. One of the biggest features I worked on was the Stream recorder (a web-based video and screen recorder). Not only did I help launch this as a new product, but also continued to integrate it into other apps across Microsoft as Teams. I was the main designer for this product and covered an array of responsibilities from accessibility design specs (i.e. determining tooltips, narration, and focus order) to copywrite. While at Microsoft, I also worked on subtitles, captions, and transcripts.
Due to the emergence of the pandemic, we saw usage of our video sharing and creation platforms skyrocket. Many of our users were in enterprise and education. One question we wanted to answer was: How can we make homework assignments more interactive for students and teachers during the pandemic?
